Life from a Perspective of a Middle-eastern Feminist

“Feminism is not about making women stronger. Women are already strong. It is about changing the way the world perceives this strength.” -G.D Anderson.

Along with the no freedom of expression; there is obviously the no freedom of women.

I wake up each day trying to resist the way the world works. I try to rise; but according to where I live, it is harder for us, women, to control our life reasonably!. It is now 3 in the morning. My laptop is the only lightening device in the room and it is accentuating the details of my skin and veins, I am deep in my thoughts!.

I stare all the time and think “Life is a rocky path”. Well, life is a rocky path, indeed! but it is even worse when it comes to women! because being a woman, unemployed, living in third world countries with a vision that doesn’t get along with a patriarchal society is total indignation. However, women shall not surrender.

I got to admit it, I want to be so much in this world but I still don’t have a clue what to do, although I have a passion to seek; yet I don’t see it as easy as it is for men. I am not alone in this, nobody is alone in this, especially us, but there are always some controversial ideas forcing you to think that at some point you are going through this alone, and that there are powers try to force you down and that you have to demolish them, and these powers arise from society.

“we all wish superpowers existed, but in reality, humans can’t even handle different skin colors” - Unknown.

Technically, society is a group of people of different orientations; gathering in one place. And regardless of how things should be; when it comes to a person who has a totally different way in going after their dreams; he or she becomes a person of recklessness or invalidity, especially if it was a woman trying to stand out. For me, I am a young adult of a different mindset, living in a third world country which they are trying to force me into hanging myself in their rope of ignorance, making my way harder into acting upon my own choices and decisions, and while It is a sexist world; living in such place which is the best at doing something I oppose, is obstructing my journey into success, simply for being a woman.

moreover, many females of my society are standing and trying to find a way out of this unbearable situation! They are trying to get permission to look for a job which is considered the main obstacle of finding a job, and not all women here are lucky!

So after graduation, I fought for this permission, and so along with the economic downturn, patriarchal chaos and anarchist minorities, I found a job and I considered myself lucky. First few months were all sunny and flourishing but things don’t last long, because there are two ways that jobs are being offered in these countries; either you find positions that are only offered for men, or companies that hire women more than men, in order to save more money and run the business in a way that raises numbers, because they get paid fewer wages than men. So, as a woman, I started recognizing the inequalities between genders even in the smallest of things, and big people are supporting that, and I started trying to stand in the way of such thing in my own way! I tried to stand out and demolish the wrong directions my community is heading into, simply by quitting my job because I did not want to be the slave of patriarchy. And from this point arise the role and responsibility of other women to upscale their voices altogether, It is a rocky path, indeed! starting from where I come from, yet I don’t surrender.

"Feminist is not an insult" -unknown

The other side of chaos begins with women confirming being feminists. In our communities, it is like confirming that you are supporting a weird group of people who are trying to ruin the ethics and morals of the planet, because men rule the world, obviously! and they got all the advantages of living and so you can find many women supporting that and they believe it by heart. Which creates the suffering of youthful females by fighting the patriarchy created by men and many women.

I dream of liberty from the invisible prison bars that we are being stopped behind, making my own decisions and becoming responsible for them and simply rule my own independent lifestyle.

But on the other hand, I got to admit that there are plenty of families who are taking few steps toward breaking those bars, but I still could see a huge number of people trying to remain the same. And for me, this is what mostly killing the youth.

However, regardless of where you live, with whom or in which society you are, the choice is still yours to be different and it is not your fault to fall in their trap of ignorance.
